COOLinary Month | Bar Frances

New Orleans COOLinary month is almost over but there are still a couple days left to try some last minute restaurants. Usually I go to places I know I will to enjoy so I can get my favs at a discount, but this time around I decided to try a new restaurant so my husband and I headed to Bar Frances, a new Uptown modern bistro located on Freret Street.

Happy Hour

Happy Hour Menu

First we ordered drinks and fries to take advantage of the happy hour that is available from 4-7 EVERYDAY!

The Happy Hour Menu consists of wine and beer, food, and select cockatils.

Contratto Spritz

I had the Contratto Spritz, made with, Contratto aperitivo, sparkling wine, and soda. A spritz one of my favorite summer drinks, this one was very light and not to sweet, I really enjoyed it.

My husband also enjoyed his cocktail, the New York Sour, a whiskey sour spiked with red wine.  This was my first time trying a New York sour and I liked it as well, the red wine took some of the "bite" away from the whiskey and the drink was surprisingly refreshing.

The hand cut french fries with aioil were delicious,  aioli is a mayonnaise based dipping sauce that I am a big fan of, and the Bar Frances version did not disappoint.

Hand Cut French Fries with Aiol

The appetizers

Bread and Butter

Bread and Butter

This consisted of some grilled baguettes, smoked beef tallow, and arugula topped with radish.  I was hesitant to try this because I didn't want to eat heavy food before my entree, but this dish was a prefect pairing and wasn't an overwhelming amount of food.

Mussels

Prince Edward Island Mussels

The mussels were made with a pistachio pesto, malt vinegar, and topped with dill chips.  Now my love for mussels runs very deep. If I go to a restaurant and they have mussels on the menu I'm ordering them, and most likely eating all of them. These were worth a return trip alone! The pistachi pesto is sweet and savory and has just the right amount of garlic for a great flavor.

Main Course

I ordered the  Steak-N-Frites, a 8 ounce hangar steak, with Argentinian chimichurri, fries, and more aioli dipping sauce. I enjoyed the steak and the fries, not as good as the mussells but still a decent entre.

Steak and Fries

My husband had the Seared Tuna, eggplant caponata, with preserved lemons, and basil. I'm not a big tuna fan, I prefer lighter, flakier fish, but I did like this dish as well.

Seared Gulf Fish

We were way too full for desserts but it was included in the COOLinary meal, so we got the Lemon-N-Thyme Pot de Crème to go and enjoyed it later at home.

Overall my experience at Bar Frances was good, I will for sure be back soon during happy hour to enjoy the fries, spritz cocktail, and mussels!
