Old Meets New | Vintage is the new Contemporary

It’s like the old saying goes, everything that goes out of style comes back around, and 2018 is no exception; designs from the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s are all on trend. The handbag pictured above is my mother’s Gucci cross body from the 80’s, try as I might to get my hands on it she only let me pose with it, go figure.  I love how timeless this purse is, it’s a testament to quality and classic style, the perfect  example of why some handbags are worth the hefty price tag.  When a 25 year old bag effortlessly fits in with new designs that’s the epitome of an investment piece.  Below are some of my favorite tends that have come back from the past few decades.

The 70’s

  • Boho/Folk: Silky fabrics, ruffle sleeves, feminine and free spirited

Nobody does this better than Zimmermann and Free People.

Free People

This flair lace mini dress is fun and flirty. I love wearing this in the spring and summer. I am still looking for the perfect ways to incorporate this trend in to my wardrobe for fall. For details from this look check out my “Little White Dress” post.

The 80’s

  • Over-sized Blazers - Also known as “The Boyfriend Jacket”

I am big fan of this look especially in plaid. Blazers are always in style and are great year round laying pieces.

Claudie Pierlot White Blazer

Claudie Pierlot

My relatively new white striped Claudie Pierlot white blazer has quickly become a wardrobe staple. I was first introduced to this brand in Milan and I fell in love with the romantic style. The Parisian fashion house owns two other companies I have quickly become obsessed with Maje and Sandro.

The 90’s

  • Belt bags are the new fanny Packs

I have to admit this is a tend that had to grew on me. Initially I thought I would never give in, I'm a traditional handbag type of girl, I like my purse over the shoulder or an arm bag.  A lot of designers have created cute fanny bags, but When  GUCCI came out with their belt bags….oh, they gave me so much life!

I have said time and time again how much of a great purchase this little pouch was. It’s not only an investment piece it has become the most versatile “purse” I own next to my speedy. For details on how I make this pouch multinational check on my post.
